History of Wildcare
Mission Beach Wildcare was formed as a working group of C4 (Community for Coastal and Cassowary Conservation Inc.) in March, 2002.
Founding members Robyn Hardwicke, Kris Bridgfoot and Rona Harvey, saw a need within the community to support the local wildlife carers, and already being C4 members (and wildlife carers) themselves, it seemed logical that the ’rescue/rehab sub-committee’ should develop into ‘Mission Beach Wildcare’.
Since it’s establishment, Mission Beach Wildcare membership is constantly on the increase and public awareness is growing, with a ‘Wildcare’ article published monthly in the Mission Beach Bulletin.
There is now a hotline number - available 24 hours - for any native animal needing attention, advice regarding animals already in care, and also for removal of snakes causing a problem in the home.
Accurate records are kept, with every call logged and information relating to the animal and it’s eventual outcome stored in a database.
